CO2 performance ladder

The performance ladder includes six levels, in which level 0 means no effort and level 5 is the highest achievable. Besides charting the carbon footprint, the company is also required to formulate reduction targets and setting up a communication plan and to join an initiative within the chain and displays the interpretation of the demands of the CO2 performance ladder on this page.

Policy statement

Policy CO2 Performance Ladder Level 3The management of BMNED / GSNED hereby declares that Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility is integrated into its policies.

The policy with regard to the CO2 Performance Ladder Level 3 is as follows:

  • The work to be carried out in such a manner that the raw material and energy consumption is minimized, there is no uncontrolled emission of hazardous substances;
  • The climate conscious production, that is reducing the energy consumption or use of alternative energy sources / green energy with the ultimate aim of reducing CO2 emissions;
  • Avoid wood used from forest areas where traditional or civil rights are violated, forest areas where high nature protection values are threatened by management activities, wood from forests where genetically modified trees are planted, wood that has been harvested illegally or wood harvested from areas that are transformed from natural forest to plantations or non-forest functions.

To achieve this, the management has set itself the following objectives:

  • Develop and maintain a certified KAM system that meets the following requirements:
    • NEN-EN-ISO 9001;
    • VCA** 2008
    • WSCS-OCE version 2012 number 1
  • CO2 Performance Ladder;
  • Stimulate CO2-conscious thinking and acting among employees through education and training and giving opportunities to report deviations and improvements;
  • Providing the right resources to execute the work properly.

CO2 policy

  • Encourage employees to report complaints and deviations, introduce enhancements and to give succession and feedback;
  • Maintain close contacts with (potential) clients and regulatory bodies / governments in order to keep abreast of legal and customer requirements;
  • The proper preparation and planning of activities;
  • The measurement, assessment and where necessary improvement of set performance indicators in the area of KAM, including periodic conducting and evaluation of internal audits and HSE audits.;
  • Creating and keeping transparency of the CO2 footprint of BMNED / GSNED (according to ISO14064-1) and reduction thereof;
  • Communicate both internally and externally, regarding the performance of BMNED / GSNED about the CO2 footprint.

The management of BMNED / GSNED has set itself the target to reduce its energy consumption or CO2 emissions. The reduction of CO2 emissions of BMNED / GSNED should lead to 10% in 2022 in comparison to 2014. Regarding the objectives and progress in the reduction, we will relate CO2 emissions to the turnover. After all, by using a relative CO2 emissions, such as tons CO2 / Euros turnover, it can be occur we will not be able to realize a reduction, while sufficient measures are taken since the company for instance is growing fast (and therefore amongst other things consumes more fuel). The energy reduction measures focus mainly on the machine and vehicle fleet, but also on housing and office paper for BMNED / GSNED. Therefore BMNED / GSNED has set itself several objectives. As described in the introduction of the emission inventory report, there are significant differences in 2014 compared to the year 2013. Therefore, the year 2014 will be used as the reference year as well as a guide. All staff members will attend a meeting concerning this subject.


TÜV Netherlands noted that BMNED and GSNED meet the requirements at level 3 of the CO2 performance ladder, in accordance with the handbook version 3.0.
